Henrik Lundqvist Lön or Salary

Friday, October 29, 2010

A lot of people wonder about Henrik's income and since he's a pro athlete the info is out there and even his friends kid him about it. Avery said that they always pick on Lundqvist to pick up the check since he makes more then they (Avery, Voros) do.

Henrik partying up on that salary.

In 2008 Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers agreed to a six-year, $41.25 million contract. He makes $6.875 million a year. $572,916 a month. $132,211 a week. $18,887 a day. $786 an hour. Is he worth it? I'd like to think so.

And I'm not alone in thinking that. Recently Chris Botta at Fanhouse ranked his top seven goaltenders in the NHL and our guy Hank ranked #4.

4. Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers: Five seasons completed in the NHL, a three-time Vezina finalist. Lundqvist is the rare New York athlete who is the antithesis of over-hyped.

If you're wondering here are other goalies salaries. Info compiled in January. Numbers are in millions.

Henrik Lundqvist 6.875
Roberto Luongo 6.75
Ryan Miller 6.25
Jean-Sebastien Giguere 6
Niklas Backstrom 6
Miikka Kiprusoff 5.833
Marty Turco 5.7
Tomas Vokoun 5.7
Cristobal Huet 5.625
Evgeni Nabokov 5.375

This may seem like a ton of dough to you or me, but they are woefully underpaid in comparison to NFL and MLB salaries.

I'm surprised Henrik doesn't have more cars and homes with that salary. He must be squirreling it away in investments. Good for him. Don't want to see him panhandling in Manhattan after the NHL is over. But if that did happen, I'd be willing to put him up in my house. ;) You know, as long as he put the toilet paper roll on correctly. (It goes OVER.)

Marty Turco had to take a major paycut this season when he became a free agent. He signed with the Blackhawks for a 1 year, $1 mil contract. It was a very bad summer for free agent goalies. José had to sign for $1.1 mil with Minnesota for a year, and he didn't get signed until Oct. Of course they are both over 30, and that makes a difference.
