Henrik Lundqvist's Favorite New York Restaurants

Sunday, November 7, 2010

From Hendrick Henrik Lunquist Lundqvist Lundkist

From the NY Post, a list of Henrik's favorite New York Restaurants and what he likes to eat there. Now he's made me hungry for ribs. Nom nom nom.

1 Hill Stone Restaurant,
378 Park Avenue South, at 27th Street
“I go there for the barbecue pork ribs. I’ve been there probably 20 times, and I get the same thing every time. They’re unbelievable. You can eat it with a fork and knife because they’re so tender.”

2 La Esquina,
106 Kenmare St., between Cleveland and Lafayette streets
“It has a great atmosphere and I love the corn there. I don’t know what they put on it, but it’s so good.”

3 Lucky’s Famous Burgers,
370 W. 52nd St., at Ninth Avenue
“I love burgers, and this place has the best one on Earth. I like mine well-done with whatever cheese they use, and most important, the Lucky’s sauce on the top.”

4 Eatery,
798 Ninth Ave., at West 53rd Street
“It’s a great brunch place. I love the goat cheese omelet. I pretty much get it all of the time, though I’ve had their banana chocolate, cream cheese-stuffed French toast (left). It’s not the healthiest thing you can eat, but it’s delicious.”

Henrik Lundqvist's Restaurant?

From henrik lundqvist

According to the NY Post today, Henrik along with Sean Avery and some other partners are working on a restaurant named Tiny's in TriBeCa. The restaurant is not open yet but Henrik says it will be his favorite place once it's opened.

I hope they'll have door guards to keep the autograph seekers out. Or make them eat a meal first. But wouldn't that be amazing a place that Henrik is known to hang out at a lot? "Oh I ate at Henrik's today for lunch." How cool would that be? I hope he puts some Swedish home cooking on the menu.
From henrik lundqvist

He says he's looking forward to going there after games. They plan to make the restaurant high end home cooking. Mac and cheese made with gourmet cheese? Meat loaf with truffles? I'm not sure how you can make home cooking high end. But I'm willing to try it out. I know, I'll take one for the team to go to Henrik's restaurant. Such a sacrifice. LOL

Henrik Lundqvist's Zodiac Sign

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Yes, I am bored. So let's see what the zodiacs have to say about our guy Hank. His birthday is March 2, 1982. Just so happen's to be my sister's birthday as well, except for the year. She wasn't too excited when I told her this. As a matter of fact she had to ask who Henrik was. She's not on my Christmas card list this year.
HEADER1
Henrik with his zodiac sign.

Anyway according to the Chinese astrology Henrik is a metal dog. Guess who else is a metal dog? ME! Weird huh. Here's what astrology.com has to say about our dog Henrik:

Dogs are loyal, faithful and honest and always stick to their firm codes of ethics. However, this Sign has trouble trusting others. It's generally quite trustworthy itself. The Dog makes a wonderful, discreet and loyal friend and is an excellent listener. This Sign tends to root for the underdog and its keen sense of right and wrong makes it duty-bound to the core. The Dog's mantra seems to be, Live right, look out for the little people and fight injustice whenever possible. At these times the Dog's narrow-minded or stubborn side can become apparent; this Sign has trouble staying light and calm when an important issue is at stake. This sensitive Sign needs to warm up to others over time and gradually learn to trust them. In any forum, this Sign is happiest when able to be quite physically active. Dogs need to work on controlling their irrational worries and would also be well-served to relax their mile-high standards, which can sometimes wind up alienating the ones they love.

Want to know if you're compatible with Henrik? Here's the compatiliby with your sign according to US Bridal Guide. I don't know why this is on a bridal site. If you're engaged it may be a little late to check up on compatibility?

No idea when Therese's birth date is but I've heard she is the same age. If so, she's either a Rooster or Dog then. To be a Rooster she'd have to be born in January, so I'm betting she's a Dog too. If so, Henrik and Therese have great compatibility, according to the Chinese zodiac.

Henrik's 2nd Shutout of the Season

From Recently Updated
Yes Henrik had another amazing night and had his second shutout of the season. He made 33 saves. Looks like the kinks in his neck are all worked out. I didn't manage to get to this game either so apparently it looks like my watching or not watching have nothing to do with the NY Rangers winning the game. That's good to know. It would be scary to have that much power.

According to Puck Daddy our guy Hank was one of the three stars of Friday in the NHL.
No. 3 Star: Henrik Lundqvist(notes), New York Rangers
Continuing to pile on the New Jersey Devils' miserable season, the Rangers blanked them 3-0 behind 33 saves from Lundqvist. It was the Swede's second shutout of the season and second in his past four starts. Brandon Dubinsky(notes) scored twice as the Rangers moved within three points of first place in the Eastern Conference.

From the NY Rangers NHL site:
“I don’t think it was an easy win, but I felt more controlled out there than I did a couple of times (Thursday) night,” said Lundqvist. “It was important for us to come back with a strong effort after the loss. We did a lot of good things, played with a lot of grit. Beating the Devils is always a good thing.”

“Henrik is Henrik, it’s what’s to be expected,” said Tortorella. “It’s something I’ve always appreciated about him the short time I’ve been with him, he’s a competitor. You don’t have to worry about how he’s going to handle himself. He’s got that in him, and I truly respect that about him.”

In that middle period Lundqvist made, perhaps, his two best saves of the night. At 13:38 he flashed his glove high into the air to deflect Ilya Kovalchuk’s wicked rising snap shot from the left wing, one that seemingly was ticketed to the far upper corner of the net. Then later in the period Lundqvist was in perfect position to stop Jamie Langenbrunner’s deflection from in front.

“He’s just world-class, what can you say?” Brian Boyle said of Lundqvist. “He’s a huge part of our team, obviously, and we start and end with him.”

During the third period rhythmic chants of “Hen-rik! Hen-rik!” filled the Prudential Center from the grateful Rangers fans on hand.

“It felt good,” said Lundqvist. “It was a good win. Starting with me doing my thing, I think everyone is happy with the two big points.”

Henrik Lundqvist's Sweden Secret

Thursday, November 4, 2010

henrik lundqvist sweden
From Faces of Scandinavia we find out a little more of what Henrik treasures about Sweden his homeland.

Most of my time that I spend in Sweden during the summer, I spend on the west coast with it’s small beautiful fish harbors. My favorite spot is an island outside Gothenburg called Käringön, it’s a beautiful little island that you can only reach by boat. You can go there by your own boat or the public ferry, it takes 15 minutes. There are only about 100 people living on the island all year around. One of the best things with the island is that there are no cars, and it has a very relaxed and calm atmosphere. When you arrive to the island you just want to run into the ocean and take a quick dip before dinner at Petterson’s restaurant; the perfect Swedish summer day. I brought my friends from New York to Käringön last summer, a bigger contrast from our lives in the city compared to the west coast in Sweden is impossible to get. Käringön is a perfect place for families with kids and dogs, you never loose them because the island is too small, and you can walk around the whole island during an hour. Enjoy!

He's said before in an interview that he loves being on the water in his boat. I bet that island is absolutely gorgeous.

NY Rangers Lost Tonight

Henrik Lundqvist Injured in Practice Today!

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Henrik in practice took a puck to the neck. Brian Boyle made the shot. It went between the mask and neck guard. No word on how fast the puck was going. But reports are that he is now OK after receiving treatment from training staff. He took the shot in the neck, felt dizzy and couldn't breath at first. It was quite a shocking spectacle as Henrik Lundqvist fell face first into the crease, moaned with pain and then skated off, leaving his stick, with Boyle in pursuit. I hope to god he's ok and continues to be ok.

@stevezipay Lundqvist, with red welt on neck, says puck caught him between mask and throat pad. Expects stiffness to go away in few hours

@agrossrecord Lundqvist says it took him a couple of minutes to regain breath. He's been icing his neck. Turned his head from shot, exposed neck.

@AGrossRecord Lundqvist went off ice so quickly he left his stick behind. Boyle still looks shaken.

@stevezipay Tortorella says he didn't see shot drill Lundqvist, but knew he was OK "when he started throwing sticks around."

@jimcerny Torts called Brian "Dr. Boyle" for rushing off ice right behind Hank after the injury; others joked he went off to pack his bags!

@jimcerny someone said they heard Hank crying in dressing room afterwards, PR jumped in "no, that was Boyler!"

@jimcerny Plenty of joking in #NYR dressing room at Brian Boyle's expense since he took shot that hit Hank in neck

@stevezipay: Lundqvist is 'fine' Boyle says. "I will be too, soon"

Henrik Lundqvist Hockey Skates Sharpening Method

Monday, November 1, 2010

There's been quite a bit of talk about this recently. Apparently the way Henrik has his skates sharpened is very unusual. But it's not unusual in Sweden at all.

Lundqvist asks for specific work on his inside edges, because he likes to play low and uses the T-push method Roberto Luongo is trying this season. His style of sharpening is unusual in North America, but common in Sweden.

Henrik Lundqvist
Henrik Lundqvist by Winston Bull

He gets his skates sharpened only twice a year with a very high cut on the inside blade.

This is an explanation of the T-push method that Henrik is using. I cut out a lot of the article so if you want steps and more in depth information go to the article itself. From this goalie site:

WHEN AND WHY USE THE T-PUSH MOTION
The T-push is the skating movement most frequently used by goalies. It is used to follow passes, rebounds, and skaters that move with great speed while handling the puck in the defensive zone. It is also used when the goalie goes to stop the puck behind the net.

The T-push is used by goalies so frequently because it allows them to move in their crease with the most speed and efficiency.

THE T-PUSH MOTION
One of the things I stress the most with young goaltenders is that they cannot expect to be fast and have success making saves, unless they always push hard and stop hard.
King Henrik
King Henrik by jmac33208

When the goalie is required to rotate in order to adjust to a change of direction, the steps are very similar to the ones from the butterly position with the only difference being that the goalie is on her feet.

THE STOP
If a goalie executes a strong push and is moving with great speed, he will then have to stop the hardest he can. The stop always has to match the push.

If the goalie does not stop hard he will still keep gliding and as a result he will not be able to set quickly enough to face the shot.

Hank the Tank Strikes Again!

NY Rangers win and Henrik was absolutely amazing! From the Rangers Report:

Lundqvist, who is now 36-17-11 against Original Six opponents in his career, has stopped 30 or more shots in seven of his nine appearances this season.
