Henke Lundqvist Gets A Goal Assist!

Saturday, April 3, 2010

Henke is happy.

That's right, Henke had a goal assist tonight! Henke went behind the net to grab the loose puck and Staal yelled at him to just leave it. Staal took it, ran with it and scored! Henke said in the post game interview that Staal told him "see what happens when you listen to me?".

Yes, Henke is just that damn good. Not only does stop 90 mile an hour pucks, but he helps score on the other team too!

Henke celebrating after the game.

Henke had a pretty easy night but still made some amazing saves as usual. If the Rangers can keep the puck at the other end, that will make these back to back games easier on Henke.

The standard head butt after the game. It's still adorable. It will never grow old.

I don't know about you, but these after game interviews with Henke kill me. Scruffy hair growth, messy wet hair, tight shirt, baseball cap on, yeah. GORGEOUS. Does he do this on purpose? Does he know he's killing his female (and some male) fans every time he interview like this?

Hank Lundqvist the Swedish Hockey God

From hank lundqvist

I can't believe we won last night. I'm really happy Hank got a shut out though. He deserves a lot more of those too.

Tonight the Rangers take on the Panthers and I think Hank will be starting again, though as of Thursday Auld was to start tonight. From what I read after the Lightning game, I think it is Hank. But we'll find out.

The thing that continually surprises me about Hank, is how much Sweden follows his every move. They send people over to interview him for their magazines and TV stations, the have articles and photos for every game he plays in the US, etc. Even though he lives 10 months out of the year over here, they don't care.
From henrik lundqvist

This is hard to wrap my mind around because if the US has a hockey player playing pro in another country, I don't know about it. You'd think maybe the guy's hometown might have a mention in their paper about his games, but Hank has got an entire country following him here in the US!

I know ice hockey is much bigger in Sweden than here, as evidenced by the 30,000 people out to welcome home the Frolunda Indians winning the country championship back in 2005 with Hank. That would be like a World Series win here. Actually, do our World Series parades draw that many people? Gothenburg, home of the Frolunda Indians, only has 510,000 people in the urban area. New York has 19.1 million. So for 30,000 out of 510,000 to come out for the Frolunda Indians championship win that would be like 1.1 million showing up for a World Series parade in New York.

Anyway, Hank is huge in Sweden even though he's only there 2 months out of the year. The day after a Rangers game you can find several Swedish online newspapers with stories and photos about him and the game. Plus there's always audio interviews after the game by Swedish TV stations. That is insane. I cannot think of any overseas US athlete with that kind of recognition here.

I wonder if the fact that he has the Rangers team and all the fans to please but also his home country and fans to support causes too much pressure for him? Is it too much to shoulder? Hank said in an interview last night that when they focus on the one game and play a simple game, they do great. Perhaps that's how Hank gets through it, he just focuses on the one game, his job and that's it.

King Henrik Beats Down the Lightning

Hank Lundqvist making a save in the third period.

Hank is making some incredible saves tonight during the game against the Lightning. That little sun vacation in Tampa has done him good. He's back to the godlike goal tending.

From hank lundqvist

And as you can see, Hank was most definitely out in the sun while down in Florida. He went boating on Wednesday, not sure what he did on Thursday but hopefully he slept all day.

According to the Rangers reporters, out of the four that went boating (Hank, Gaborik, Voros and Avery) only Hank didn't have a sunburn. He's from a northern country so you'd think he'd burn like a lobster. But no, he tans a nice dark tan. I'm Irish, also a northern country, and yet I burn immediately and never tan. I also do not have high cheekbones. I'm getting really jealous of those Swedes.

Hank has his game face on.

The New York Rangers look very likely to win this game, which is a great thing for them making the playoffs. Score is at 4-0 with just minutes left in the third period. Now we just need to win tomorrow and I think Auld is starting that game.

Update: Henrik has another shutout! 5-0 I still think the head butting at the end of the game is adorable. Hank looks like a big skating teddy bear and everyone skates over to head butt and pat him on the head. Awwwwwwwwwwww.

Are they head butting or bowing to the King?

More pics of the tan and messy hair!

Henrik Designs New Rangers Jerseys for 2010

Thursday, April 1, 2010

Henrik Lundqvist will design the much anticipated third jersey for the New York Rangers 2010 season.

New York, NY (PRBuzz) April 1, 2010 -- The New York Rangers are proud to announce that the third jersey of the 2010 hockey season will be designed by Henrik Lundqvist with Tiger of Sweden producing the jersey uniform.

"I am very excited. I have always wanted a much more stylish uniform and together with my favorite brand, Tiger of Sweden, the Rangers will be the best dressed players on the ice." says Henrik Lundqvist starting goalie for the New York Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist is well known for his fashion sense and has been voted Best Dressed Male in Sweden and has made People's list of 100 Beautiful People.

The New York Rangers third jersey will be more than a jersey, as the entire hockey kit is being redesigned for a more stylish and sleek look. The bulky pads will be replaced by kevlar which conforms to the body for a thinner look. The jersey will have a collar and french cuffs but will still allow enough movement for the Rangers to get the job done. "We don't want to inhibit their movement, just make them look better." says a Tiger of Sweden representative Fippa Brandonstad.

Thanks to the slimming new kevlar protection, the bulky shorts will be changed to slimmer fitting and longer jersey pants. "When you dress good, you feel good and play good." states Henrik Lundqvist as to the reason for the stylish redesign of the jerseys. As to Henrik's reason for the shorts being changed to slimmer pants? "I don't like having a big butt. The camera in the net always shows me having a large butt and I don't like it."

New York Rangers - The New York Rangers are a professional ice hockey team based in New York, New York, United States. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing their home games at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers are one of the oldest teams in the NHL, having joined in 1926 as an expansion franchise, and are part of the group of teams referred to as the Original Six.

Tiger of Sweden - Tiger of Sweden was founded 1903 in the Swedish town Uddevalla, by the tailors Markus Schwarmann and Hjalmar Nordström. It is a classical brand of men's wear. Tiger of Sweden began develops suits attractive to the young and trendy inner-city crowd.
